    Spring Judicial Education Session

    Speaker: Marlise Boylan, Assistant District Attorney, Lubbock County Criminal DA's Office | This session will discuss common mental health commitment procedures, including motions, hearings, time deadlines, and standards for granting relief.

    Speaker: Beth Lawson, CEO, Starcare Lubbock, Kelly Rowe, Sheriff, Lubbock, Seth Herman, Chief, Lubbock Police Department | This topic will address theneed for stakeholder engagement in the planning and implementation of a successful mental health solution for the community with a particular focus on the needs of the community, long range planning/assessment and how law enforcement is integral to success.

    Speaker: David Hall Judge, Nolan County Court at Law |This session will discuss the rules of evidence and common objections.

    Speaker: Bronson Tucker, General Counsel, Texas Justice Court Training Center | This session is the 2 hour “refresher” judicial education course on the duties of a magistrate which judges must complete in each state fiscal biennium in which the judge serves, and is taken in the year after the initial 8-hour judicial education course.

    Speaker: Molly Davis, Director of Operations, Judicial Commission on Mental Health | NAMI estimates that up to 70% of youth who enter the juvenile justice system have one or more mental health disorders, in the face of a declared mental health crisis in all children and adolscents. This session will discuss what this means for your county and your court and learn what you can do about it.
