    Fall Judicial Education Session

    Speaker: Hon. Curtis Parrish, Lubbock County Judge | Mental Health 101 and overview of current mental health issues.

    Speakers: Lt. Jorian Guinn, CIT Director, Williamson County Sheriff's Office and Andrea Hoppock, Director- Crisis Services, Bluebonnet Trails in Georgetown | Overview of what they are, how they work & the impact they have on the judicial system, law enforcement, the jail and your community.

    Speaker: Kristy Carr, Assoc. Commissioner, Texas Health and Human Services | What judges need to know, including what they are, how they operate; who they serve; the admission process; and best practices.

    This lunch is to recognize the Fellows of the Texas Judicial Academy. All attendees are invited.

    Speaker: Deborah Earley, Blanco County Attorney | Typical process and order of hearings and special issues on impairment/alcohol offenses.

    Speaker: Joe Stephens, Chief Public Defender, Concho Valley PDO | This session covers difficult defendants and dealing with difficult people, including contempt issues with unruly parties, defendants, attorneys; “sovereign citizens”; complaints to the Texas Bar Association and difficult attorneys.

    Speaker: Bronson Tucker, General Counsel, Texas Justice Court Training Center | This session is the 2 hour “refresher” judicial education course on the duties of a magistrate which judges must complete in each state fiscal biennium in which the judge serves, and is taken in the year after the initial 8-hour judicial education course.

    Speaker: Greg Holly, Judge, Ward County | This session discusses civil lawsuits for money damages, jurisdictional limits, service of process requirements, discovery motions, summary judgment and final judgments.

    Speaker: Tramer Woytek, Judicial Resource Liaison & County Relations Officer, TAC, Lucy Hebron, Judicial Education Program Manager, TAC, David Hall, Judge, Nolan County Court-at-law | This session will provide a panel discussion on the current rules of judicial ethics and common pitfalls with respect to social media usage.

    Speaker: David Hall, Judge, Nolan County Court-at-Law | This session will discuss the rules of evidence and common objections.

    Speaker: John Sharp, Chancellor, Texas A&M System

    Speaker: David Schenck, Attorney, Dykema Law Firm | This session will be an overview of relevant Texas case law and issues that have been decided by Texas courts which may be relevant to Texas county judges and the cases they hear.

    Speaker: Brad Cummings, Justice of the Peace, Hopkins County | Overview of the inquest process and procedures.

    Speakers: Curtis Parrish, Judge, Lubbock County, Justin Lewis, Judge, Hill County, Lucy Hebron, Judicial Education Program Manager, TAC | This panel discussion will address emerging issues in the use of AI in the county court.

    Speaker: Sarah Billingsley, District Judge, 446th District Court, Ector County | What county judges might want to know

    Speaker: Sharron Rush, Executive Director, Knowibility | What you need to know about your county website and whether it complies with federal and/or state laws.

    Speaker: Curtis Parrish, Judge, Lubbock County | This session will consist of live criminal and DWI hearings in which the judge will conduct actual hearings in the presence of an audience. Attorneys and defendants will appear remotely via Zoom so the participants can observe the different types of hearings, order of the hearings, hear the participants and observe the legal arguments made from beginning to end.
