"One of our deputies who honorably retired at the end of last year has requested to purchase her firearm. Can we still sell it to her, and how much should we sell it for?"

How does the county determine the price of a firearm when a retiring deputy wants to purchase it?

Under Government Code §614.054, a qualified individual under §614.051 must purchase a firearm before the second anniversary of the date of the person’s retirement. Government Code §614.053 provides that a governmental entity shall establish the amount. The amount may not exceed the fair market value of the firearm.
