"I am a newly elected official. I know I need to file a bond, but how much does it need to be and where do I file it?"

What are the bond filing requirements for county officers?

It depends on the office. Generally, if the official bond is required by law to be approved by the commissioners court, then the bond must be made payable to the county judge and kept and recorded by the county clerk pursuant to Local Government Code §88.001. Some exceptions may apply. The amount of the bond also depends on the office. For more information, see TAC's publication Oath & Bond Requirements for County Officials.
