"Many of our citizens are upset over some news about a cellular tower going in near their neighborhood. Is there anything the county can do to prevent this from happening? Cellular towers are such an eyesore!"

Do counties have regulatory authority over the location and installation of cellular telephone towers?

Counties do not have specific authority to regulate the location and installation of cellular towers. However, counties may have potential authority to apply airport zoning rules, floodplain regulations, and subdivision regulations. Additionally, a cellular tower may not be placed through, over, or across a part of a dedicated cemetery without consent of the cemetery directors or at least two-thirds of the owners of cemetery plots.
