Raised hands "There's a big push from constituents to open up a new road in the county. I plan to present the idea for a vote at our next commissioners court meeting. Does that vote to approve the new road have to be unanimous?"

Is a unanimous vote of the commissioners court required to open a new road?

No, a unanimous vote is not required to open or discontinue a road pursuant to Transportation Code §251.051. However, a unanimous vote of the commissioners court is required to close, abandon, or vacate a public road, or alter a public road, except to shorten it from end to end.
