"We have some concerns about the speed limit on a county road in an up-and-coming part of town. We want to drop the limit from 40 mph to 30 mph. What do we do to make this happen?"

How does the county reduce the speed limit on a county road?

The commissioners court may lower the speed limit on a county road, but first must hold a public hearing on the proposed regulation. Under Transportation Code §251.152, the commissioners court should publish notice of the hearing in a newspaper of general circulation in the county. The notice must be published at least seven days before the date of the hearing, but no more than 30 days.
