"We have some concerns about the speed limit on a county road in an up-and-coming part of town. We want to drop the limit from 40 mph to 30 mph. What do we do to make this happen?" |

How does the county reduce the speed limit on a county road?
The commissioners court may lower the speed limit on a county road, but first must hold a public hearing on the proposed regulation. Under Transportation Code §251.152, the commissioners court should publish notice of the hearing in a newspaper of general circulation in the county. The notice must be published at least seven days before the date of the hearing, but no more than 30 days.
