"My daughter has worked as an executive assistant in another commissioner's office for two years. I was elected and assumed office as a commissioner this year. Can I vote when her pay raise is considered at the next meeting?" |
---|
May an elected official vote on the pay raise of a relative who retained their job due to the continuous employment exception?
No. The related commissioner cannot participate in any deliberation or vote on the employee's status or compensation. This does not prohibit a member of the commissioners court from voting on a class or category of employees including a relative.
