"Bail Bonds Service" light sign "Our county is seeing a lot more court cases involving bail bonds. We're considering creating a bail bond board to streamline our processes. Are there any requirements we should be aware of?"

What are the requirements for creating a county bail bond board?

Pursuant to Occupations Code §1704.051, creation of a bail bond board is mandatory in counties with a population of 110,000 or more. In counties with a population of less than 110,000, a board may be created if a majority of the people who would serve as board members decide to create a board and if the commissioners court approves the creation of the board by a majority vote. Occupations Code §1704.052. For a list of required board members, see Occupations Code §1704.053. To see what population bracket applies to your county, visit our Population Bracket Map.
