Notebook page that says "Request For Bid" "We are planning for a new county building. Lots of local architects have inquired about the job. Do the competitive bidding rules apply?"

Are there any mandatory exceptions to competitive bidding?

A county may not competitively bid for the services of certain professionals, including an architect. Contracts for the professional services of an architect have specific rules, outlined in Government Code §2254.004. For more information, see our publication Basics of the County Purchasing Act and Competitive Bidding.
