Law Enforcement Model Policy Program
All TAC members can access law enforcement (LE) model policies for patrol and jail operations at no cost.
Policies are provided through an agreement between TAC and the OSS Academy, a Texas-based provider of emergency services policies.
Login access provided
Each county sheriff recently received an email from OSS providing website information and login access for this service. Counties that have questions should contact the TAC Law Enforcement Consultant for their region. Find your Consultant.
Patrol and jail operations policies available
The LE Model Policy Program provides all 254 counties access to download close to 500 sample model policies for county law enforcement, jail, and communications operations.
The policies are updated regularly to meet federal and state laws and regulations and to provide current and best practices for law enforcement operations. These updates include requirements promulgated by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, Texas Attorney General and various Texas codes. In addition, the policies include guidance from federal and nationally recognized law enforcement organizations.
Background
Since 2014, TAC has provided LE model policies to all Texas counties. These were previously provided through an agreement with Legal & Liability Risk Management Institute (LLRMI).
