Webinar: Liability for Sexual Abuse of Individuals under Custodial Supervision

The Project on Addressing Prison Rape in collaboration with the National Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Resource Center will be hosting a webinar entitled Legal Liability for Sexual Abuse of Individuals Under Custodial Supervision from 1-2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 9, CDT.

This webinar focuses on the liability of agencies, staff and others for sexual abuse of people in custody. During the webinar, the presenter will:
  • review the legal issues involved in legal liability including the national PREA Standards and applicable state and federal law [protecting] inmates and residents from sexual abuse;
  • illustrate legal liability in different settings and scenarios using case law decisions;
  • discuss different elements of liability for municipalities, officials, individuals and staff; and
  • identify steps agencies can take to address potential liability.

This webinar is open to all correctional professionals from adult prisons and jails, lock-ups, juvenile justice agencies and community corrections facilities, as well as civil litigation attorneys, prosecutors and community advocates. Registration is available online.
