Supreme Court Decision May Push Back Election Dates

Where and when candidates must file for election in the primaries as well as the election dates themselves remain uncertain. Today the U.S. Supreme Court rejected the interim maps adopted by a district court in San Antonio for the upcoming primary and general elections.

The high court raised questions about the standards followed by the San Antonio court and ruled that the lower court’s remapping efforts must be guided by the policy judgments underlying the plans previously adopted by the Legislature.

The unanimous ruling sends the case back to San Antonio and the district court back to the drawing board.
