On Feb. 1 Lisa Kaufman, director of budget and policy and special counsel to the Speaker of the House, will be our special guest and speaker at the TAC Tuesday Morning Breakfast.
Before her return to public service, Kaufman worked a brief stint at the Texas Civil Justice League as executive director and general counsel during the 81st interim. Her legislative experience includes more than a decade with the Texas Senate. Kaufman served as general counsel for Texas State Sen. Robert Duncan and director of the Senate State Affairs Committee. From January 2003-February 2004, Kaufman served as director for the Senate Jurisprudence Committee in addition to her role as Duncan’s general counsel. Prior to joining Duncan’s staff in 1997, Kaufman was senior investigative counsel for the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee and special counsel for the U.S. House Government Reform and Oversight Committee. Before her tenure on Capitol Hill, Kaufman practiced law in the Washington D.C. office of Akin, Gump, Straus, Hauer & Feld. Kaufman received her undergraduate degree from Washington University in St. Louis (1987) and her law degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. (1990).
