Federal Budget Sequestration

The National Association of Counties (NACo) has prepared a PowerPoint presentation with information on the pending federal budget sequestration process and its potential impact on counties.

The sequestration process is a result of the Budget Control Act of 2011. Because the Super Committee (Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction) failed to reach an agreement on a deficit reduction package, automatic budget cuts totaling $1.2 trillion are scheduled to take effect on Jan. 1, 2013. The cuts are divided evenly between certain defense and domestic discretionary spending. The presentation includes information on the projected cuts and potential impact to county related programs.
