County Officials Flood Austin: Counties at the Capitol a Rousing Success

Countiesatthecapitol_photo.jpgCounty officials gathered in Austin Tuesday, Jan. 29, for TAC’s Counties at the Capitol event. You all produced a phenomenal turnout at all of the day’s events and your TAC staff were delighted to see so many county officials from across the state come together, discuss significant issues facing counties this session and connect with your legislators.

We would like to thank Rep. Todd Hunter, chair of the House Calendars Committee, for speaking at breakfast for more than 100 guests about the most pressing issues being considered at the Capitol and for sharing his insights into the process and how county officials can most effectively engage with the legislature.

The Legislative Boot Camp fspeaker.jpgor TAC’s Core Legislative Group was honored to have Rep. Doug Miller discuss policy issues and  share his thoughts and advice on working with the Legislature. Rep. Miller was frank, informative and welcoming, and we thank him for his significant contribution to that important event.

Following Boot Camp, county officials traveled to the Capitol and met with their members and legislative staff. It is so important to know and keep in contact with our legislators, and the afternoon provided an excellent occasion to do so.

To close out the day’s events, officials returned to the TAC building for the Legislative Reception. More than 200 people attended the gathering, including more than 35 House and Senate members, as well as their staff, county officials and your TAC staff.

It was a busy and productive day and we thank each and every one of you who made it to Austin to make the day a rousing success.
