Get Ready. Get Engaged. Get Involved.
County officials should plan to gather in Austin Jan. 29 for TAC’s Counties at the Capitol event. The day‘s activities will prep attendees on the most significant issues of the 83rd legislative session and offer opportunities to connect with legislators and their staff members.
The day will kick off with a 7:30 a.m. breakfast, during which officials will hear from a seasoned legislator about the most pressing issues being considered at the Capitol. They’ll also get a chance to discuss their county’s concerns and priorities. The breakfast is held at the Texas Association of Counties building at the corner of 13th and San Antonio.
Next, members of TAC’s Core Legislative Group will huddle for a Legislative Boot Camp that will include committee hearing and social media training, a mock committee hearing and a Q&A with legislative advocacy experts. The boot camp is only open to Core Legislative Group members. Complete the form on the TAC website to become a member.
Officials can spend that afternoon sharing concerns with their legislators and staff members in face-to-face meetings by setting up appointments ahead of time.
To close out the day’s events, officials will return to the TAC building for the Legislative Reception, scheduled from 5-7 p.m. “Don’t forget to invite your legislator to attend the TAC Legislative Reception that evening,” said Paul Sugg, TAC legislative director. “This is the perfect opportunity for county officials to engage with legislators and their staff members in an informal setting.”
